Week Ending 11/4/2016
Eastern Nebraska:
Compared to the last week alfalfa, grass
hay, ground and delivered hay sold steady. Alfalfa pellets sold
steady to 10.00 lower. Demand was mostly light for round bales
with moderate demand for dairy type hay and for ground and
delivered alfalfa. Most cow/calf producers continue to sit on the
fence about buying hay for winter needs as they are utilizing
cornstalks and fall grazing. Per NASS: Corn harvested was 69
percent, near 70 both last year and the five-year average. Sorghum
harvested was 81 percent, ahead of 66 last year and 70 average.
Soybeans harvested was 91 percent, near 95 last year, and behind
96 average. All sales are dollars per ton FOB (freight on buyer) in
the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.
Northeast/Central Nebraska:
Alfalfa: Good large square
bales 130.00-160.00. Premium Small Square bales 180.00-200.00.
Premium large round bales 80.00; Good large round bales 65.00-
75.00. Grass Hay: Premium large round bales 80.00; Good large
round 60.00-75.00. Premium small square bales of grass hay
130.00-150.00. Sorghum (Sudan) grass hay 60.00. Cornstalk bales
50.00. Dehy alfalfa pellets 17 percent protein 195.00-210.00.
Platte Valley area of Nebraska:
Alfalfa: Good large round
bales 62.50-72.50. Ground and delivered alfalfa 90.00-105.00.
Sun-cured alfalfa pellets 15 percent protein 180.00.
Western Nebraska:
Compared to last week, prices were
fairly steady with activity and demand light in all classes. The
NASS Wyoming Crop Progress and Condition report for the
week ending October 30, 2016 has Alfalfa 3rd cutting 96 percent
complete. Pasture and Range conditions were 14 percent Very
Poor, 15 percent Poor, 30 percent Fair, 37 percent Good, and 4
percent Excellent. Stock water supplies across Wyoming were 9
percent Very Short, 19 percent Short, 66 percent Adequate, and
6 percent Surplus. Wyoming experienced warmer than normal
temperatures for the week with a state high of 84 degrees and low
of 24 degrees, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office
of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. According
to the U.S. Drought Monitor, short-term precipitation deficits and
well above average temperatures led to an increase in the depiction
of abnormally dry conditions across parts of western and central
Nebraska. All prices dollars per ton FOB stack in large square
bales and rounds, unless otherwise noted. Most horse hay sold
in small squares. Prices are from the most recent reported sales.
Alfalfa
Large Squares: Supreme 140.00.
No reported quotes for other classes of hay.
