Nebraska Weekly Weighted Average Feeder Cattle Report Week Ending: 6/27/2019 LIVESTOCK SUMMARY: Current Week Last Reported 5/6/2019 Last Year Total Receipts: 8,990 9,703 Feeder Cattle: 8,990 (100%) 7,150 (73.7%) 0 (0.0%) Slaughter Cattle: 0 (0%) 801 (8.3%) 0 (0%) Replacement Cattle: 0 (0%) 1,752 (18.1%) 0 (0.0%) Special Note: Receipts: Last Year 14,866 Compared to last week, steers under 500 lbs sold 5.00 higher, 500 to 800 lbs sold 10.00 higher, 800 lbs sold 4.00 higher and over 900 lbs sold 3.00 lower. Heifers under 500 lbs sold 3.00 higher, 500 to 800 lbs sold 10.00 higher, 800 lbs sold 4.00 lower and 900 lbs heifers sold 2.00 higher on a thin test. Demand was good for a nice run of weaned fall calves and yearling feeder cattle with some coming off of grass. Most auctions had several farmer/feeder buyers and orders buyers with some internet action. Weather has finally turned to summer with a area temperatures hitting in the high 90’s this week. Even though it’s hot, its welcomed by many as fields and hay meadows can dry and ranchers and farmers alike try to finish up first cutting of alfalfa and start on summer grass hay production. Feedlot trade has been stagnate most of the week. There has been very limited sales trading steady at 180.00 in early week trading. Bulk of the trade still has to occur sometime on Friday. New crop alfalfa fully steady to 5.00 higher. Ground and delivered hay sold unevenly steady. Dehy pellets steady. Demand for big squares was very good from out of state buyers. Moderate demand for all other hay. Hot dry weather the next several days are helping producers finish their first cutting alfalfa. Some have started cutting early season grass hay. Some reports that first cutting alfalfa is a 1/3 to 1/2 per ton less per acre in different areas of the state. Several reports of cane or millet going in on acres that did not get planted to corn or soybeans. Some producers have started to cut oats for hay. Some areas have received rain, hail, wind or a combination of all three early in the week. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.
