The Kearney Hub Freedom Award program was begun in 1990 to honor individuals in the Hub's coverage area who exemplify voluntarism in their communities. Each year readers are asked to nominate individuals, couples or groups in the categories shown below. A panel of outside judges and Hub Managing Editor Mike Konz review the nominations and make the selections. The Freedom Award recipients are then profiled in the Hub and honored at a banquet held each spring.

Since its inception, the Kearney Hub Freedom Award program has focused deserved attention on scores of outstanding area residents who serve their neighbors and fellow citizens with unselfishness and dedication.
