wellness education programs,”
Kristensen said.
Kristensen described the
Wellness Center as a great add-
on and said that it could help
recruiting. Unruh agreed.
“One of the biggest things is
that the Wellness Center — not
just for our department, but for
our campus — is going to be a
recruitment tool,” Unruh said.
Unruh also said that for the
department of kinesiology and
sports sciences, the Wellness
Center will be an invaluable
tool and that faculty has been
planning ways to use the facili-
ty since the beginning.
“It’s pretty exciting around
here,” Unruh said. “Every
program is working on a way
to be able to incorporate that
new facility into their teach-
ing. Being a multidisciplinary
department like we are, we’re
going to take advantage of it.”
Faculty and staff also will be
able to take advantage of the
new facility as more than just
a classroom and will be able to
use Wellness Center exercise
equipment, programming and
services.
“There will be a fee structure
established for faculty and staff
if they want access to the facil-
ity,” Kristensen said. Students
already pay fees to use health
and fitness facilities.
The $6.5 million dollar
project was funded using stu-
dent fees, university funds and
private donations through the
University of Nebraska Foun-
dation. Ground was broken in
April 2013.
