KCHS boys lose in finale

HASTINGS — The Kearney Catholic boys basketball team’s regular season came to an end with a 63-46 loss to Adams Central.

The Stars trailed by one after one quarter but saw Adams Central outscore them 18-9 in the second quarter and 19-13 in the third to pull away.

Alex Nickman led KCHS (14-7) with 19 points. Matt Reisinger added 13, but no other player had more than four.

Adams Central was led by Evan Volzke’s 22 points. Preston Englund had 17 points, five rebounds and three steals while Dustin Peterson had six points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Kearney Catholic now enters subdistrict play as the top seed in the C1-11 subdistrict. The Stars will take on the winner of the Cozad/Hershey game at 6 p.m. Feb. 22.
